Director general Mikel Arana discussed approved rules and ongoing regulatory initiatives, including an impact analysis of Royal Decree 958/2020. A Portuguese-language opinion article argues that Brazil should address betting through evidence-based regulation rather than calls to prohibit it. It says fixed-odds betting regulation required more than 100 documents from operators and included identity checks, financial controls, anti-money-laundering measures, age restrictions and taxation. The author also says the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets had proposed a consultation to tighten oversight.

Brazil’s government classified documents used to prepare its betting ban for five years, under a decision signed on 24 September, according to the report. Licensed operators are challenging the measure at the Supreme Federal Court and preparing to seek the return of about R$2.5bn in licence fees; the Congress review period ends on 23 November.
Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies Finance and Taxation Committee approved a request on 5 November 2026 for a public hearing on online betting taxes, financial controls and the reported Willer Tomaz–Blaze case. The request invites government and financial authorities to discuss oversight; the hearing date has not been set, and the request says it does not prejudge wrongdoing or responsibility.
The Finance and Taxation Committee (CFT) of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approved a request from deputy Hildo Rocha (MDB-MA) for a public hearing on Wednesday. The hearing does not yet have a date.
Industry representatives warned at a Supreme Federal Court hearing in Brazil that the betting ban could shift activity to unlicensed operators. The Ministry of Justice said it had requested the removal of 36,905 websites between 25 September and 29 October; representatives also said betting volumes fell 32% in the latest three-month data compared with a year earlier.
